Auckland MTB Club

Welcome to the website of the Auckland MTB Club

Hi there!

Thanks for clicking in and logging on. Welcome to the Auckland Mountainbike Club website; here you'll find all sorts of info about mountain biking in the Auckland Region and beyond. June 2008 saw a big change in the club leadership with long-standing President - and driving force behind the club for many years, Geoff, standing aside to concentrate on other stuff. Marke picked up the reigns and hopes to build on Geoff's achievements and continue to steer the club towards success and ultimately ensure riders of different abilities and interests are well catered for by the club. If you click on the 'Our People' link to the right, you can meet Marke and the rest of the important people that make up the club committee. They volunteer their personal time to help make this club what it is. Without their dedication and commitment, none of the stuff detailed on this site would be possible.

If you are new to mountain biking or new to Auckland and want to find out what we do, click on the 'what we do' link over there on the right. Otherwise, just navigate through the different links (some pages are under construction) and see what takes your fancy. We'll update this page with some cool stuff that we think you'll be interested in. As Geoff used to say, “keep the rubber side down”, catch ya!

R & R Sport - Auckland MTB XC Spring Series Final

Update: 12/11/08

This is it, the final round of our spring XC series. It has come around fast and we have got an awesome course lined up for you. Whitford has a lot challenging terrain and the winners at this event will truely deserve their place at the top of the podium. Points series are up for grabs and final positions can still change.

We shall endeavour to get race results out and series points and prizes awarded on the same day so we need some help from you.....if possible, please pre-enter the event. It helps to avoid spelling mistakes in names which would mean the same person would show up twice in the overall results. Secondly, plese fill in the entry forms clearly and again, if you have entered every race as 'Dave' for example, don't enter this one as David as you will be considered by the race software as two different people and you may not get the prize you deserve! Stephen has been onto it in the last week and I understand the results are now sorted but please check through the series points to-date and make sure you are happy with race positions etc.

Pre-enter the race online here. You have until midnight Friday 14th November. We shall still do on the day entries and we'll see you on Sunday out at Whitford. All the details you need are on the special race 4 page here.

Bring it on!!

Auckland MTB Club riding gear update

Update 12/11/08

All race gear has now arrived. The kit from Tineli is awesome and anyone that went to the Ay-Up Woodhill 12 hour event at the weekend would have seen it on show. We have mens and womens long and short sleeve tops and lycra shorts (bib and non bib) for men and women (non bib only). We have even dressed two top models up in it and posted the piccies in the gallery. Check them out here.

The Krank gear is here too. The baggy shorts are really comfy with a high-quality chamois in them and the tops are a loose, relaxed fit. It is really high quality, custom made stuff and NZ made. Sweet.

Check out the club kit page for more detail and the gallery too. If you wish to purchase any of it, drop me an email.

JAFAKIDS programme news

Update: 23/10/08

Currently, the Auckland MTB Club, in conjunction with the sub-committee for the JAFAKIDS programme, the JAFAKIDS coach and the parent coach volunteers, is reviewing the structure and delivery of the JAFAKIDS programme.

When it was first established, the programme catered for a handful of kids and this has grown year-on-year beyond all expectations to 60+ members and a constant stream of enquiry from newbies, hopeful to join.

Until the review is complete and a structure implemented that will ensure the high-quality service enjoyed by so many can continue to be delivered, new Junior/JAFAKIDS memberships have been suspended temporarily.

As soon as the programme is able to accept more riders, we will update this notice and re-open registration.

We greatly appreciate your patience in this matter, particularly those of you who have recently contacted the club looking to join the programme.

This does not affect current riders and all usual activities (for existing JAFAKIDS members only) are scheduled to continue.

Thank you, Marke.

Membership and membership cards

Update 11/10/08

As you know, the long awaited - much delayed membership cards have finally arrived and many of you have been heading into R & R to pick up the membership pack. We have heard that some of the R & R staff we not sure what to do and although we have briefed them, the casual staff may have been missed. Hopefully, it is all sorted now.

Just a reminder - the NZ Mountainbike Rider mag subscription will be honoured even though expiry was 30th Sept 08 but please get them in to the publisher asap and while you are in R & R check out their great range of gear - you can use the flyer and $20 voucher to treat yourself to some new goodies!

Membership runs from 1st July to 30th June each year so if you have not received a card in the post, your membership has probably expired. If you take part in some of our activities and/or turn up to the races and fancy a great value membership pack, then help us to continue to offer these services by joining us as a full member.

Sign up online or download a form and send in a cheque from this page. It will be great to have you on board.

Brotherhood: Ride For Life

Update 11/10/08:

You know, it seems that there is a lot of support out there for ladies with health issues and I guess that comes from their ability to swallow their pride and seek help when it is needed. Sometimes guys are trying to be too much like guys and fail to acknowledge their own mortality and weaknesses when we know something may not be right.

Well thats not good for anyone, neither us nor our partners/family/friends so thankfully someone has decided to do something to raise awareness of mens health issues and even better, it involves riding a bike!

Rick Martin is going to ride from Bluff to Cape Reinga to raise awareness of mens health and in particular Prostate Cancer. The Auckland MTB Club is planning on joining him for a couple of legs in a show of support. Bigfoot Adventures has offered to assist with transporting bikes and gear for those that want to join in.

Check out Rick's website here.

If you wish to register to join us, email Kris here.

We wish Rick lots of luck and we'll look forward to joining him as he approaches Auckland. More details as we get an idea of numbers....
